RSS Feeds for All Businesses

I know I've ranted about this before, but here we go again. It cannot be said enough. EVERY business that has a web site and has information on the Internet needs to provide RSS Feeds for that data.

I am looking for product review web sites right now. Looking to harvest data on different product areas and feed it back out to users. I am not looking to harness the traffic, it will go to the source of the reviews. I do this to get data and statistics and ultimately provide value to end-users.

4 out of 5 sites I come across have reviews but do not have an RSS Feed. I understand that some people are worried about their proprietary data, well.....get over it. RSS will generate new users and syndicate your content beyond your web site.

If you can't figure out how to have an RSS feed, go get a Wordpress blog and start using that!!

RSS Tracking and Analytics Using Feedburner

I have bee spending the week finding many types of RSS feeds for different purposes. I am building large lists of them under different topics and tracking the source of these feeds.

I am noticing about 1 in 10 feeds are using Feedburner or any type of tracking for it.

Though I am happier at the amount of quality data available via RSS it concerns me that people who have employed RSS do not understand the the value of tracking their RSS consumption and usage.

I really think there is a huge need for continued education around RSS in all age and business levels, it is really not understood by the masses.

Structuring My World

It always comes in waves, but I keep picking up new ways to structure my world and keep my thoughts and project organized.

Currently the Google Platform is doing most of the heavy lifting for me. I use Google Reader constantly for all my data feeds and organizing my information for myself.

In addition to Google Reader I am heavily using Google Notebook to gather my thoughts. Since I spend most of my day on the computer and I use Firefox having a Google Notebook Firefox Add-On is the key player in recording my thoughts as they come into my head. I gather them in their raw format for organizing later.

I also use Google Notebook Firefox Add-on for gathering information as I am surfing the internet, recording a snippet of information and a link to the source is as easy as highlight and right click. Since I keep my Google Notebook on my "inbox" by default. I can go in here regularly and organize my incoming data into other various folders as I see fit.

Some folders I even make public and utilize the RSS Feed in my Google Reader to feed my own thoughts and findings back to myself for evaluation. Then I can even share from there.

Now this weekend there is a Google Notebook API....it can only get better.
